Brown Sugar Squares with Chocolate Chips

2/3 c. shortening
2 ¼ c. brown sugar
3 eggs
2 2/3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts
1 pkg. chocolate chips

1. Have shortening really soft or melt and stir in sugar, beat in eggs 1 at a time until mixture looks smooth.
2. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into shortening mixture. Add nuts and ½ of the chocolate chips.
3. Spread into 9X13” baking pan; sprinkle with remaining chips. Bake in 350° oven for 25 minutes. After the batter has been in the oven for about 1 or 2 minutes, cut and save through the mixture with a knife for the marble effect.
